BMET Training Course for the AAMI CABT (Biomed Training Course)
BMET Academy is a free biomed training course for people starting out in healthcare technology management. Fifty-three lessons and thirteen hands-on labs on virtual instruments double as a CABT study guide, and the CABT practice tests lead up to the AAMI/ACI Certified Associate in Biomedical Technology exam.

How the course works
- Cheat sheet. Everything the exam expects you to recall cold, printable.
- Starter test. A few questions per exam domain, with a confidence rating on each.
- Your tutorial. Lessons chosen from what you missed or guessed, each with a checkpoint and a deeper explanation.
- Practice tests and retraining. 50 questions, weighted like the real exam. Every miss is explained and feeds back into your lessons.
- 3 of your last 5 at 80%. That unlocks one full-length test on the real exam's clock: 100 questions in 120 minutes, at its real passing score of 70%. Pass it once and you are ready to book.

Hands-on labs on virtual instruments
13 lessons carry a lab: a virtual multimeter on drawn circuits, an electrical safety analyzer, a patient simulator with a monitor, an infusion flow check, and a defibrillator analyzer. The kit labs also run on a $60 to $100 home kit; the instrument labs need nothing but a browser.

Questions people ask
What is the CABT?
The Certified Associate in Biomedical Technology is the entry-level AAMI/ACI credential for biomedical equipment technicians: 100 questions in 2 hours, closed book, taken by live remote proctoring any time of year, valid five years.
Who can take the CABT exam?
Anyone who is at least a high school junior. No work experience is required, which is what makes it the first credential for a new technician.
How much does the CABT cost?
In 2026 the exam is $220 for AAMI members and $270 for non-members; a retake is $190 or $240 after a 60-day wait. The fee is non-refundable and the exam must be taken within six months of purchase.
Do I need a lab kit?
No. Every kit lab also runs on the virtual multimeter in the browser. A kit of a multimeter, breadboard, resistors, a 9 V battery, LEDs, a switch, and a fuse holder costs about $60 to $100 if you want the hands-on version.
Is BMET Academy free?
Yes. Every lesson, lab, practice test, and the printable memorization sheet are free while the site launches.
What comes after the CABT?
The CBET, the working technician's credential, after two years of full-time work with an associate degree or a military biomed program, or four years of work alone; then the CRES for imaging or the CHTM for managers.
What is on the Certified Associate in Biomedical Technology CABT exam?
Anatomy and Physiology (10%), Medical Devices and Test Equipment (23%), Safety in Healthcare (16%), Electricity and Electronics (14%), Reasoning and Problem Solving (24%), Healthcare IT (13%), Your Career (0%). The course's units follow the same domains, and the practice tests draw on the same domain weights.
